"Five Fast and Easy
Ways to Obtain Publicity Instantly That Won’t Cost You a Dime!"
I have found in my many years of dealing with publicity, that no
matter how hard we try, getting our name in front of our audience
isn’t always so easy. And, sending out press release after press
release can be discouraging if you’re not getting any response. So,
I wanted to share with you my list of some quick and easy ways to
add publicity to your everyday life. Truth is, some of these you’re
probably already doing, just not from a publicity stand point. So
take a look at these suggestions in a new light and put your
creativity to the mix for tremendous success.
1. Agree to chair a committee with your networking association.
It’s great to work on a committee with a group, but think for just a
moment who gets the most recognition in the committee. That’s
right! The committee chair not only gets the recognition, but
they also get the respect of being a leader. They also get listed on
the website, newsletter, and sometimes in the monthly programs.
So, shouldn’t your name be the one that appears?
2. Write a series of articles on one topic and submit them as an
ongoing column to a newspaper or magazine.
The media is always looking for good material for their publication.
Why not have it be your material with your bio and contact
information? Not only will you get lots of recognition, but you’ll
also
be considered the expert in your field. And, then the media will be
contacting you instead of the other way around.
3. Enter competitions in your industry.
You would be surprised at how many people are awarded the status of
#1 in a competition simply because there wasn't enough entries. Now
I’m not saying that the people who win didn’t deserve to win, but
think how many times you’ve seen a winning entry and thought “my
material is better than that!”. And, not only does this offer
some great press coverage, but think about how impressed your
potential clients will be when they see this on your website,
newsletter, or brochures. To find competitions for your expertise,
the best place to look is your industry’s associations and
organizations. They are known for holding lots of contests, so start
there first.
4. When you are the guest speaker for a group, make sure to send
your photo, bio, and website link to list on their website.
Now this one sometimes takes a little more effort. And that's
because you will sometimes have to work through the person
responsible for their website. But, to make it more enticing, offer
to send out press release announcements about the event that will
list their link. This way the organization gets more publicity for
their meeting. Just make sure they have you listed first. And once
you are listed, add their link on your site for even more publicity
exposure.
5. Join discussion groups and forums in your industry.
By joining a few of these, you’ll find several types of people as
members. Yes, you will often find some of your competitors, but
you’ll also find potential clients there as well. I’ve even found
some media folks in some of my groups, which has turned out to be a
little goldmine for contacts. But, keep in mind, a discussion
group's main function is not for publicity. And if you go into a
group with only that in mind, you will have others shunning you very
quickly. So, instead
of diving right into a discussion to show others how brilliant you
are, “listen” and learn for a while first. Before you know
it, others will be asking for your advice instead and considering
you the expert on the topic and the one with all the smarts! And
isn’t that what publicity is all about... Showing the world how
wonderful and terrific you really are?
